The general population does not understand the importance of having a dental exam performed by a dentist. The oral cavity is an area that can manifest many illnesses the body may have. From early signs of oral cancer, tuberculosis, systemic problems, STD's, and other illnesses, the oral cavity can show up any of these conditions. Although it is not common to find these type of conditions, a thorough Dental and Medical history completed by the patient will allow the dentist provide the best care for each patient. It is recommended that these preventive maintenance procedures be performed once every 6 months to diagnose any new conditions in their early stages.
